Chemical, food, and pharmaceutical supply chains rely on IBCs because one unit replaces multiple smaller vessels, cutting packaging costs, handling effort, and warehouse footprint in a single step. A key distinction: rigid IBCs – usually a plastic inner vessel inside a steel cage – differ from flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs, or bulk bags); the term "IBC" on its own almost always refers to the rigid type. The built-in pallet base allows movement with standard forklifts and pallet trucks, no additional load carriers required. When used for dangerous goods, IBCs must comply with UN performance specifications and carry the corresponding approval markings.
