A TMS is a software platform for planning, executing, and optimizing transport orders, routes, vehicle capacity, and freight costs. Through integration, orders flow automatically from the ERP into the TMS, real-time positions are pushed to customers, and cost and performance data return to accounting for invoicing and KPI reporting. Only this seamless data exchange unlocks full visibility, shorter lead times, and improved fleet utilization. A TMS should not be confused with a WMS (Warehouse Management System), which governs warehouse operations and typically runs as a separate, complementary system.
