Incoterms® Group E gives the seller the lightest possible delivery obligation, and EXW (Ex Works) is its sole term. Goods are made available at the seller's named premises – factory, warehouse, or depot – with no requirement to load them or handle export clearance. From that point, the buyer assumes all transport costs, risk of loss or damage, and both export and import formalities. EXW sits at the minimal end of the Incoterms® spectrum, with DDP at the opposite extreme. It suits buyers who run their own logistics operations or work with freight forwarders equipped to manage origin-side collection. One practical limitation: foreign buyers without a legal entity in the country of origin may find it difficult or legally impossible to act as exporter of record, making FCA a more workable alternative in cross-border trade.
