Incoterms® Group D comprises three arrival terms – DAP (Delivered at Place), DPU (Delivered at Place Unloaded), and DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) – under which the seller bears both cost and risk all the way to the named destination. This is what sets Group D apart from every other Incoterms group: cost and risk converge at the same point, and the goods must physically arrive before obligations transfer to the buyer. DPU is the only term across the entire Incoterms framework that expressly obliges the seller to unload the goods; under DAP, unloading remains the buyer's responsibility. DDP goes furthest: the seller also handles import customs clearance and all associated duties in the destination country, which demands thorough knowledge of the local customs regime and significantly increases liability exposure. Group D terms offer buyers the greatest contractual protection but require the seller to maintain uninterrupted logistical and regulatory control over the full transport chain.
