> Incoterms do not directly stipulate penalties for late delivery; instead, they determine when risk and costs shift from seller to buyer, thereby establishing who bears the economic consequences of delays.

Incoterms do not directly stipulate penalties for late delivery; instead, they determine when risk and costs shift from seller to buyer, thereby establishing who bears the economic consequences of delays. A delay under CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) affects the buyer's exposure differently than under DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), since the moment of risk transfer differs. Claims for damages or contractual penalties must be specified separately in the underlying sales contract.
