Import-export label compliance is the requirement that all markings on a shipment fully satisfy the legal, customs, transport, and product-specific regulations of both the exporting and importing country. Mandatory elements typically include the country of origin, net and gross weight, a product description in the local language, hazardous goods markings where applicable, and machine-readable identifiers such as barcodes or QR codes. Customs authorities and import control agencies inspect labels early in the clearance process—omissions or errors can halt a shipment before it reaches the border. Consequences range from delays and fines to outright detention of goods. Label compliance should not be confused with consumer product labelling: it explicitly extends to customs and transport law requirements that general product regulations do not cover.
