The assessment covers management systems, product safety, hygiene, traceability, and subcontractor oversight, and is carried out on-site by a licensed IFS auditor. Successful completion results in formal IFS certification. The standard is especially relevant for contract logistics providers, cold chain operators, and fulfilment centres supplying retail chains. It should not be confused with the IFS Food Standard, which applies to manufacturers rather than logistics service providers.
