IFS Logistics is a certification standard assessing the operational processes of logistics and warehousing service providers – covering storage, handling, transport, and temperature control of food and non-food products – against consistent international criteria. Large retailers and food manufacturers routinely make a valid IFS Logistics certificate a contractual prerequisite; without it, tenders for sensitive supply chains are largely inaccessible. Accredited auditors carry out on-site assessments and award a foundation or higher-level certificate based on the score achieved. IFS Logistics is distinct from IFS Food, which targets manufacturing and processing operations; both standards are benchmarked under the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) framework. Freight forwarders providing transport only, without warehousing, may instead require an IFS Broker certification.
