Unlike standard freight, a high-value shipment activates an elevated security and documentation regime the moment the declared goods value exceeds a threshold defined by contract, carrier tariff, or industry convention. Typical requirements include GPS-tracked vehicles, pre-approved routing, a strict chain-of-custody record, and supplementary cargo insurance well above standard carrier liability limits. Forwarders and carriers generally require a shipper's risk declaration and formal acceptance sign-off before committing to such consignments. Common commodity types are electronics, jewelry, pharmaceuticals, fine art, and currency. High value is not synonymous with dangerous goods: the two classifications are independent and may overlap, but neither implies the other.
