A high-reach forklift is a specialist warehouse truck built to store and retrieve pallets in narrow-aisle racking at heights that standard counterbalance forklifts cannot safely manage. Its extendable reach mast or telescoping fork carriage typically lifts loads to between 7 and 13 metres, while the compact chassis fits within the reduced aisle widths of modern high-bay warehouses. This configuration significantly increases storage density per square metre of floor space compared with conventional layouts. Operators require specific training and certification, as reduced visibility at height and lateral instability during load handling demand careful technique. Unlike a very-narrow-aisle (VNA) turret truck, a high-reach forklift generally approaches the racking face-on rather than working with a side-rotating mast.
