Dock heights are engineered to align with the floor level of standard semi-trailers and box vehicles, effectively eliminating the height differential. This cuts dwell time at the bay, reduces product damage, and lowers wear on handling equipment compared with ramp or ground-level approaches. In practice, high dock platforms are almost always paired with dock levellers to accommodate the varying floor heights of different vehicle types. Not to be confused with ground-level loading, where trucks are loaded from the warehouse floor – a method typically used for oversized or heavy cargo.
