A high cube container is a standard-footprint ISO shipping container with an internal height of approximately 2.69 m—about 30 cm taller than a regular dry container (roughly 2.39 m)—yielding 10–15 % more usable cubic capacity on the same deck space. Available in 20-foot and 40-foot variants, it is coded HC or HQ in booking systems and bills of lading. Logistics operators favour it for voluminous, lightweight cargo such as packaging materials, textiles, plastics, and light industrial goods where volume, not weight, is the binding constraint. Operators must account for height clearances at rail terminals, tunnels, and road overpasses, as well as any surcharges applied by terminals for these units.
