Warehouse planners and distribution centre operators deploy high-bay racking to exploit available building height fully while keeping the required floor area to a minimum. The rack structure consists of steel uprights and load beams arranged in narrow aisles, serviced by reach trucks, narrow-aisle forklifts, or automated stacker cranes. Compared with conventional pallet racking in low-bay facilities, high-bay systems achieve considerably greater storage capacity within the same footprint. Typical applications include food logistics, pharmaceutical storage, e-commerce fulfilment, and industrial spare-parts warehousing. High-bay racking denotes the individual rack unit – not to be confused with a high-bay warehouse, which refers to the complete facility built around such systems.
