> Hazardous goods—commonly referred to as dangerous goods or hazmat—are substances and articles whose chemical or physical properties pose a risk to people, the environment, or property.

Hazardous goods—commonly referred to as dangerous goods or hazmat—are substances and articles whose chemical or physical properties pose a risk to people, the environment, or property. International frameworks including ADR, RID, IMDG, and IATA-DGR classify them into nine categories: from explosives (Class 1) and flammable liquids (Class 3) to radioactive material (Class 7). Classification drives packaging specifications, labeling obligations, permitted modes of transport, and required documentation such as the dangerous goods declaration. Freight forwarders, warehouse operators, and drivers must hold valid certifications and be prepared to implement emergency procedures. Undeclared or misclassified shipments breach regulations, attract penalties, and can cause accidents, environmental contamination, or facility shutdowns.
