Certified traders and low-risk shipments gain access to a dedicated customs channel that bypasses standard inspection queues – that is the Green Lane. Eligibility rests on recognised compliance credentials, such as AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) status in the EU or equivalent trusted-trader programmes elsewhere, combined with advance digital submission of shipment data. Customs authorities carry out a risk assessment before the goods arrive; shipments rated as low-risk pass through without physical examination. A Green Lane is fundamentally different from a fast lane or priority queue: it is a formal, authority-sanctioned compliance programme, not merely a time-priority measure. The concept is well-established in the EU, across several Asian trade corridors, and in various other free-trade zones.
