A green environmental badge marks the highest emission category in national vehicle labelling schemes and grants access to environmental and low-emission zones (LEZ). Fixed to the windscreen, it certifies compliance with exhaust limits for nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter. In Germany, the green badge corresponds to pollution group 3, requiring at least Euro 3 for petrol engines and Euro 4 for diesel. France operates a separate scheme: the green Crit'Air sticker denotes category 1, covering electric and certain gas-powered vehicles. The two systems are not mutually recognised. For freight operators on urban delivery routes, badge classification directly affects fleet procurement decisions – an insufficient rating triggers driving bans and failed deliveries.
