Inventory accuracy starts the moment a delivery arrives—and the goods receipt note (GRN) is the instrument that secures it. The document records which items were received, in what quantity, and in what condition. Cross-checking it against the purchase order and the supplier's delivery note immediately reveals shortages, damage, or discrepancies before goods are put away and corrections become costly. The GRN captures the date, item numbers, quantities, condition remarks, and the signature of the receiving inspector. In the warehouse management system (WMS) it triggers the stock booking; in accounts payable it forms the basis for invoice verification. Should transport damage or delivery shortfalls occur, the goods receipt note is the primary evidence document for claims against the carrier or supplier. Unlike the delivery note brought by the supplier, it is created and retained solely by the consignee as an internal control document.
