When a pallet leaves the storage area for the loading bay, the goods issue note is the internal document that formally records the transaction. It captures item number, quantity, consignee, and issue date, and is signed by the releasing department. Without it, inventory records cannot be updated accurately: the warehouse management system (WMS) books the stock movement directly from the data entered on the note. In day-to-day logistics operations, the goods issue note also underpins invoicing and, in the event of a claim, serves as evidence that specific quantities left the facility in a defined condition. It should not be confused with the delivery note that travels with the shipment to the consignee—the goods issue note stays on file as an internal control document.
