Every day, logistics and freight companies process personal data: delivery addresses, driver records, supplier and customer contacts. GDPR compliance requires that each processing activity rests on a valid legal basis, is transparently documented, and that individuals can exercise their rights—access, erasure, and objection—at any time. In practice this means maintaining a current record of processing activities, concluding data processing agreements with service providers (tracking platforms, cloud systems, subcontractors), and reporting data breaches to the competent supervisory authority within 72 hours. For freight forwarders with cross-border data flows—such as those using US-based cloud services—the rules on transfers to third countries add another layer of compliance. Fines for violations can reach €20 million or four percent of global annual turnover, whichever is higher.
