A shipment arrives on the desk and a quote is needed – that is when freight rate determination begins. The key figure is chargeable weight: actual weight and volumetric weight are compared, and the higher value applies. Transport distance, commodity type, mode of transport, and applicable surcharges – such as hazmat fees, oversized cargo premiums, and fuel surcharges – are then added.
