The freight forwarder is responsible for maintaining the prescribed temperature range throughout the entire transport chain, whether the cargo is frozen goods, fresh produce, or temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. For smaller shippers such as fruit exporters or fish traders, this LCL (less-than-container-load) service is cost-effective because they pay only for the space actually used rather than chartering an entire reefer unit. The forwarder, in turn, achieves better utilization of expensive refrigerated equipment and greater efficiency per tonne transported.
