Free Carrier (FCA) is an Incoterm under which the seller delivers goods, cleared for export, to a carrier or other person nominated by the buyer at an agreed place. Risk passes to the buyer at that point; all subsequent freight, insurance, and handling costs fall to the buyer. Unlike EXW, the seller under FCA handles export customs clearance in full, so the buyer requires no export authority in the country of dispatch. A notable feature introduced in Incoterms 2020: where the buyer arranges ocean carriage and requires a bill of lading, the parties may agree that the carrier issues an on-board bill of lading to the seller after loading. FCA applies to any transport mode and is widely used in air and road export shipments.
