Unlike the one-off purchase of a single electric machine, forklift fleet electrification is the wholesale, planned transition from internal combustion to battery-electric vehicles across an entire warehouse operation. It extends well beyond swapping out equipment: charging infrastructure must be built out, energy management systems deployed, and maintenance schedules as well as shift patterns restructured to align with charging cycles. Warehouse operators and third-party logistics providers pursue this transition to comply with emissions regulations, reduce long-run operating costs, and improve indoor air quality. The term should not be confused with a partial or mixed-fleet strategy, where combustion and electric units continue to run side by side.
