A pallet sits in goods-in, the consignment needs to be racked in three minutes – that is where the forklift comes in: a powered industrial truck that hydraulically lifts, lowers, and horizontally moves loads. Fork tines slide under pallets, wire-mesh containers, or crates, and the truck carries goods through storage aisles to the despatch bay. Depending on requirements, operations use counterbalance trucks, reach trucks, narrow-aisle machines, or automated guided vehicles (AGVs). Rated capacity, lift height, and drive type – electric, LPG, or diesel – determine which variant is right for the job. Operator certification and regular safety inspections are legal requirements, not optional practice.
