Exclusive use carrier agreements commit a carrier to dedicate an entire vehicle, container, or trailer solely to one shipper's freight – no co-loading with third-party cargo. They apply whenever mixed loading is impractical or prohibited: hazardous goods, temperature-controlled shipments, time-critical consignments, and freight with special handling requirements all fall into this category. The shipper gains direct scheduling control and reduces transit risk, but pays for the full transport capacity regardless of utilization. In road freight this equates to a full truckload (FTL) contract; at sea, a dedicated container booking – both distinct from less-than-truckload (LTL) or less-than-container-load (LCL) arrangements where space is shared.
