Professionals (freight forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, trading companies) must therefore retrieve the eVV in XML format, archive it electronically and unaltered for ten years, and keep it available as proof for input-tax deduction on import – merely storing the PDF is not enough. Declarants choose the time of retrieval themselves: the eVV is not delivered but must be actively collected. There are three retrieval paths – via clearance software through the API interface, via the BAZG ePortal with login (AGOV), or via an access code without registration (using the UID). From the legacy e-dec system, retrieval is done through Chartera Output and requires a ZKV certificate registered in the Customs Customer Administration (ZKV); in the Passar goods-traffic system the eVV is obtained directly from Passar.
