Any business importing or exporting goods across EU borders quickly discovers that customs systems will not accept a declaration without a valid EORI number. EORI stands for Economic Operators Registration and Identification – a unique EU-wide identifier issued by the national customs authority of the operator's member state of establishment. Registration is free and done once; the number stays active as long as the business remains registered. In day-to-day forwarding, it appears as a mandatory field in every import, export, and transit declaration, allowing customs authorities to link each shipment unambiguously to a specific legal entity. In certain cases, businesses established outside the EU that participate regularly in EU customs procedures must also obtain an EORI number.
