# Electronic Assessment

> In Switzerland, electronic assessment (elektronische Veranlagung) is the digital determination and levying of import or export duties by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG).

In Switzerland, electronic assessment (elektronische Veranlagung) is the digital determination and levying of import or export duties by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG). Importers, exporters or their customs agents submit the goods declaration electronically; the system validates the data, runs automated risk checks and sets customs duty, VAT and other charges. The result is the electronic assessment decision (elektronische Veranlagungsverfügung, eVV), which serves as proof of completed assessment and is retrieved from the customs system. For freight forwarders, hauliers and shippers: electronic assessment currently runs in the legacy system e-dec and in its successor Passar (DaziT programme). For imports, e-dec declarations can be filed for the last time until 30 September 2027; thereafter assessment takes place exclusively via Passar. Passar 1.0 covers transit and export, while imports have been migrating since Q2 2026 in pilot stages 1 and 2 of Passar 2.0 (roadmap/planning). Electronic assessment (the process) is distinct from the assessment decision (the issued ruling/document) and from foreign duty notices.
