Customs brokers and freight forwarders handling shipments between the EFTA states – Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein – and Indonesia operate under the EFTA–Indonesia CEPA. CEPA, short for Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, goes beyond a standard free trade agreement by addressing not only tariff reductions but also investment protection, services trade, and intellectual property. The agreement's rules of origin are central to daily customs practice: only goods with verified preferential origin qualify for reduced duty rates. Exporters must issue and present the correct proof-of-origin documentation at the point of import; without it, standard MFN duties apply. The CEPA thus affects tariff classification work, documentation workflows, and compliance checks on both sides of the trade lane.
