# e-dec transitional case

> An «e-dec transitional case» is an import or export customs declaration that, during the ongoing migration from the legacy e-dec system to the new goods traffic system Passar of the Swiss customs authority (BAZG, Federal Office for Customs and Border Security), is still processed under the e-dec rules even though goods traffic is already partly running on Passar.

An «e-dec transitional case» is an import or export customs declaration that, during the ongoing migration from the legacy e-dec system to the new goods traffic system Passar of the Swiss customs authority (BAZG, Federal Office for Customs and Border Security), is still processed under the e-dec rules even though goods traffic is already partly running on Passar. For professionals (freight forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, importers): during the parallel phase agreed between BAZG and the economy, e-dec and Passar exist side by side for a time, so individual consignments can still be handled via e-dec until a company has fully migrated to Passar. Deadlines (planned per the BAZG roadmap, dates may shift): for exports, the switch to Passar (Passar 1.0) was completed on 31 December 2025; for imports (Passar 2.0), the last import declaration via e-dec or e-dec Web can be filed on 30 September 2027, after which declaration is only possible via Passar or its successor web application Declar. A transitional case is therefore time-limited and tied to each company's individual migration date. Distinction: not to be confused with «Parallelbetrieb e-dec» (the overall simultaneous operation of both systems) or the «e-dec Altfall» (a case already started in e-dec and completed there).
