# e-dec legacy case

> An e-dec legacy case is a customs declaration that was started or filed in Switzerland's previous e-dec system and is not yet fully completed at the switch to the new Passar goods-traffic system run by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) – for example because it is still open, under review, or carries an outstanding payment or assessment.

Such legacy cases typically arise around the migration deadlines of Switzerland's customs digitalisation programme DaziT: e-dec Export was moved to Passar Export at the end of 2025, while for imports the last e-dec declaration is, under current planning, possible until 30 September 2027 (a roadmap date that may shift). Because e-dec data is not migrated automatically to Passar, forwarders, hauliers and customs agents must identify their legacy cases early and complete them in the respective system; a time-limited parallel operation of e-dec and Passar exists for this purpose. Open transactions should be closed before the shut-off date to avoid problems during audits, supplementary assessments or when retrieving the electronic assessment decision (eVV). Not to be confused with a regular new declaration (goods declaration) in Passar or with the common transit procedure via NCTS. Last updated: June 2026.
