The e-dec data archive refers to the long-term, legally compliant retention of customs and transaction data from Switzerland's former e-dec clearance system – in particular the electronic assessment decisions (eVV import/export) and the related declaration data. In plain terms for private individuals and shippers: anyone who declared via e-dec or e-dec Web must download the eVV from the BAZG server themselves after release and archive it securely – it is the legally valid proof of assessment and is not automatically kept available indefinitely. For professionals (forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, trading companies): the Customs Ordinance (SR 631.01) requires the retention of customs-relevant data and documents (Art. 94) and sets a retention period of five years for this (Art. 96); the form of retention is governed by Art. 97. Because the same records are also business- and VAT-relevant documents, in practice the longer commercial/VAT retention period of ten years usually applies (Art. 958f Code of Obligations; Art. 70 VAT Act). Important during the migration to Passar: e-dec data are not automatically migrated to Passar. Companies must export their e-dec data set (eVV, declarations, supporting documents) themselves before the e-dec applications are switched off and store it in an audit-proof manner, since after end-of-life there is no guaranteed access via the old interfaces. To be distinguished from e-dec itself (the declaration system), from the individual eVV (the document) and from the new Passar goods-traffic system with the Declar web application. Related terms: e-dec, e-dec Web, eVV (electronic assessment decision), Passar, Declar, BAZG, DaziT, retention obligation. As of: June 2026.
