Unlike any other Incoterm, DPU (Delivered at Place Unloaded) is the only rule that explicitly obliges the seller to unload the goods at the named destination. Risk transfers to the buyer only once the goods have been unloaded from the arriving conveyance and placed at the buyer's disposal—not merely upon the vehicle's arrival. This means the seller carries the risk throughout the unloading operation itself, a greater burden than under DAP (Delivered at Place), where unloading is the buyer's responsibility. DPU suits intra-European road transport and container logistics where a terminal or depot serves as the agreed destination. Sellers should confirm in advance that they have the necessary infrastructure and logistical control at the destination to fulfil this obligation.
