Picture a distribution center handling hundreds of deliveries a day: without systematic coordination, yard congestion builds quickly and staff stand idle while docks remain blocked. A dock management system (DMS) addresses exactly this problem. The software schedules vehicle arrivals in defined time slots, manages dock assignments in real time, allocates resources such as forklifts and pallet trucks, and records throughput data for analysis and capacity planning. In modern logistics facilities, a DMS is tightly integrated with the warehouse management system (WMS) and the transport management system (TMS). Unlike a basic time-slot booking tool, a full dock management system provides end-to-end visibility from inbound receipt through to outbound dispatch.
