Once a finished product leaves the factory and enters the distribution network, distribution logistics takes over. It covers all physical and planning processes between the factory gate and the point of delivery to the customer: warehousing at distribution centers, order picking, packaging and labeling, trunk-line transport, and last-mile delivery to stores or end consumers. Where procurement logistics focuses on supplying production with raw materials and components, distribution logistics is oriented entirely toward fulfilling customer demand. On-time delivery rates, transport costs, and service quality are direct results of how well these processes are structured and executed.
