At the point of delivery, the digital delivery note replaces its paper counterpart: sender details, consignee, line items, and recipient signature are captured on a mobile device, transmitted in real time, and stored in a tamper-proof archive. The result is an instant electronic proof of delivery (ePOD) that speeds up invoicing and closes traceability gaps in the supply chain. In parcel services and B2B groupage transport the practice is now standard. Across most European countries, the digital delivery note carries the same legal standing as a paper document, provided authenticity and integrity can be demonstrated. It should not be confused with the electronic consignment note (eCMR), which governs international road freight under a separate treaty framework.
