Unlike a plain delivery deadline, a delivery window defines a mutually agreed time slot — for example, Tuesday 08:00–10:00 — within which goods must arrive at the consignee's premises. The consignee can schedule dock staff and unloading equipment in advance; the carrier benefits from optimised routing and avoids failed delivery attempts. Delivery windows are standard practice in e-commerce fulfilment, food supply chains, and pharmaceutical distribution, where unplanned arrivals create costly staffing gaps or temperature excursions. Missing the agreed window may trigger contractual penalties or outright refusal of the consignment. Not to be confused with a pickup window, which governs the collection slot at the shipper's premises.
