Delivery inspection is the systematic verification of incoming goods carried out immediately upon arrival at the receiving location. Warehouse or goods-receipt staff compare the physical consignment against accompanying documents – delivery note, waybill, purchase order – checking quantity, condition, completeness, and packaging integrity for signs of transport damage. Defects or shortfalls must be recorded at the point of handover without delay: late discovery significantly weakens claims against the carrier or supplier. Documented findings – photographs and notations made directly on the waybill – form the evidential basis for damage reports, complaints, and insurance claims. Delivery inspection should not be confused with deeper quality testing conducted in a laboratory or on the production line after the goods have been put away.
