When the carrying vehicle arrives at the named destination ready for unloading, risk and cost shift from seller to buyer under DAP (Delivered at Place). Up to that point the seller is responsible for export clearance, carriage, and any insurance arranged. Unloading, import customs clearance, duties, and taxes are entirely the buyer's burden. DAP applies to any mode of transport and is particularly common in road and rail shipments. Shippers who want the seller to also handle unloading should use DPU; those who require the seller to cover import clearance as well should opt for DDP.
