DPU (Delivered at Place Unloaded) places the broadest obligations of all Incoterms 2020 on the seller: delivery is only complete once the goods have been unloaded at the named destination. The seller bears all costs and risks from origin through export clearance, international carriage, and the act of unloading itself. From that moment, the buyer takes over—import clearance, duties, taxes, and onward transport are entirely the buyer's responsibility. This distinguishes DPU from DAP, where unloading remains the buyer's task. In practice, DPU is favoured for high-value machinery, perishable cargo, or destinations where the seller needs to retain control over final handling.
