DPU (Delivered at Place Unloaded) is the only Incoterm that expressly places the unloading obligation on the seller. Delivery is not complete until the goods have been physically unloaded from the arriving vehicle at the named destination; risk transfers to the buyer at that precise moment. The seller bears all transport costs and risks through to completion of unloading, while the buyer takes on import customs clearance, duties, and onward transport. DPU suits all modes of transport and is particularly practical when the named place is a terminal, warehouse, or industrial site with defined unloading facilities. Compared to DAP, the seller's obligation extends beyond arrival on the vehicle to actual unloading; compared to DDP, the seller has no duty to pay import duties.
