> The debtor status (Debitorenstatus) in Switzerland's new Passar goods-traffic system (BAZG, Federal Office for Customs and Border Security) is an indicator showing how a business partner's import duties (customs duty, VAT, etc.) are settled – in simple terms, whether payment is made on account or immediately.

For importers, forwarders and customs agents: the new debtor status allows the BAZG to waive the former general requirement to lodge securities. If the status is unremarkable, duties are invoiced after assessment via the billing account (formerly the ZAZ account, now identified by the business-partner ID/GP-ID). With an unfavourable ('red') debtor status – or if the business partner expressly requests it on the goods declaration – immediate payment (Sofortzahlung) is required: the duties are then paid at the customs office in cash or by another accepted means of payment (e.g. credit card) before the goods are released. The debtor status is part of the import functions of Passar 2.0 and takes effect together with the activation of the goods declaration. Distinction: the debtor status governs the payment/billing method and should not be confused with the ZAZ account (the billing account itself), the GP-ID (the identification number alone) or selection (risk screening of the consignment). Related terms: Passar, BAZG, business-partner ID (GP-ID), ZAZ account, goods declaration, activation, assessment decision, e-dec. As of: June 2026.
