> A customs risk analysis is the systematic review of a company's compliance exposure across its customs-related operations.

A customs risk analysis is the systematic review of a company's compliance exposure across its customs-related operations. It identifies weaknesses in tariff classification, rules of origin, customs valuation, and import/export documentation to prevent penalties, shipment delays, and regulatory sanctions. The analysis is typically carried out by customs brokers, freight forwarders, or in-house compliance teams—often as part of an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programme. Key focus areas include supply chain documentation, consignee and supplier due diligence, and procedural risks at the point of declaration. It should not be confused with risk profiling conducted by customs authorities: this is an internally driven compliance tool, not a governmental measure.
