Customs clearance services are carried out by licensed customs brokers, freight forwarders with dedicated customs departments, or specialist clearance agents on behalf of importers and exporters. Core tasks include HS classification of goods, preparation and electronic submission of customs entries, calculation of duties and import taxes, and direct liaison with customs authorities. Forwarders often outsource these functions when they lack the required country-specific licence or local regulatory knowledge. Professional clearance services reduce the risk of shipment holds, misdeclarations, and financial penalties—especially for controlled commodities or markets with frequently shifting import rules.
