Where risk profiling triggers a physical examination or additional documentary checks, release is delayed accordingly, with direct knock-on effects for demurrage, storage costs, and delivery schedules. The scope can extend to post-clearance steps such as duty refund applications, preference certificate management, or appeals against customs decisions. Customs clearance is also distinct from customs brokerage: the former is the procedure, the latter the professional service that manages it.
