This design enables forklift, crane, or manual loading along the entire trailer without restricting access to the rear doors only – a significant advantage in high-throughput cross-docking operations. Curtainsiders dominate European general cargo, groupage, and part-load (LTL) traffic, handling palletised goods, furniture, food products, and mixed consignments. They differ from flatbed trailers, which provide no weather protection, and from box trailers, which offer greater security and temperature stability but require rear-only loading. The curtainsider's operational flexibility makes it the default equipment choice for most European road freight carriers.
