A container with an expired safety plate or structural defects is withdrawn from service and may not be loaded again until it passes a CSC Inspection. The inspection—conducted under the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC)—covers the validity of the safety plate, a visual check for cracks, corrosion, and deformation, and a functional test of all moving components such as door locking bars, floor cross-members, and corner castings. A container that passes receives a new plate showing the next due date. Inspection intervals are governed by the CSC convention, and only accredited bodies may certify compliance. For carriers and freight forwarders, maintaining valid CSC documentation is non-negotiable: containers without a current plate are routinely rejected at ports and border crossings.
