Before confirming a shipment to a new market, exporters run country screening: the countries of origin, transit, and destination are automatically checked against embargo lists, sanctions frameworks, and internal risk policies. The process is a core element of export compliance and protects companies from violations of national and international export control laws. If a country of destination is sanctioned, the transaction is put on hold until authorization is obtained or an alternative route is established. Country screening should not be confused with sanctions list screening of individuals or entities – it targets jurisdictions, not business partners.
