A Container Freight Station (CFS) is a facility where less-than-container-load (LCL) shipments from multiple shippers are consolidated into full export containers, or where inbound containers are deconsolidated into individual consignments for onward delivery. CFS facilities are typically located at port terminals or inland logistics hubs and cover not only the physical stuffing and unstuffing of containers but also documentation handling and, in many cases, customs coordination. For shippers who lack the volume to fill an entire container (FCL, Full Container Load), the CFS provides cost-effective access to ocean freight. It differs from a Container Yard (CY), which is purely a storage and stacking area with no active cargo-handling function.
