Unlike general inspection stickers, the CSC plate is a permanently affixed metal plate with legal force: it certifies that a container conforms to the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) and has received an officially recognised type or design approval. Fixed to the container body—typically on the left door panel—it states the approval number, date of manufacture, maximum gross weight, and the date by which the next examination is due. A valid CSC plate is mandatory for international ocean transport; shipping lines and freight forwarders will refuse a container whose examination date has lapsed. Depending on national implementation, compliance oversight rests with flag-state authorities or accredited inspection bodies.
